As concrete professionals, we don’t just work hard — we work smart. At CSS INC, our crews often face intense environmental conditions, especially during the summer months. With temperatures exceeding 90°F this week, we’ve activated our Heat Illness Prevention Program to ensure every worker stays safe, hydrated, and protected.
Why Heat Safety Matters
Concrete jobsites absorb and reflect heat. Combined with hard physical labor and heavy PPE, the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke rises quickly. These are real and dangerous hazards that can affect anyone — new hires, seasoned tradesmen, even supervisors.
That’s why OSHA considers heat illness a serious workplace concern, and so do we.
What CSS INC Is Doing This Week
To protect our team during this extreme heat advisory, we’ve implemented the following measures across all active job sites:
Hydration Protocol: Water every 15–20 minutes for all crew members
Shaded Break Zones: Tents and designated cool-down areas available at every site
Daily Toolbox Talks: Focused on heat symptoms, prevention, and emergency response
Acclimatization Plans: Gradual workload increases for new and returning workers
Supervisor Checks: Foremen are trained to recognize early signs of heat stress
Know the Signs of Heat Illness
Heat Exhaustion:
Heavy sweating
Dizziness or nausea
Muscle cramps
Headache
Heat Stroke (Emergency):
Confusion or loss of consciousness
Red, dry skin or excessive sweating
High body temperature
Seizures
If these symptoms occur on site: stop work immediately, move the worker to shade, and call 911.
Building Safety into Our Culture
Our commitment to safety isn’t just about compliance — it’s about care. Every foreman, every laborer, and every partner on a CSS INC project deserves to go home healthy and safe. That’s why we treat heat illness prevention with the same urgency as fall protection or heavy equipment safety.
Partner With a Contractor That Leads with Safety
